Cristiano Ronaldo officially shut down rumours and quashed speculations of a potential return to his boyhood club, Sporting CP, after his current stint with Al-Nassr. Ronaldo, who began his professional football career at Sporting as a teenager in 1997, played 31 games for Lisbon and scored five goals along with six assists. Thereafter, he made his big move to Manchester United in 2003. Since then, there has been no looking back for Ronaldo, who achieved legendary status, winning numerous titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.
However, in a recent interview (shared via @The NassrZone on X), Ronaldo made it clear that he had no intentions of joining Sporting CP after Al-Nassr. This announcement would surely break the hearts of Portugal fans who would have expected their boy wonder to retire at home.
"No, never, I think it makes no sense. My career started in Portugal and it's not because I don't like Portuguese football or don't think it has quality. But I think everything has a time and a limit, and I never thought about that honestly."
Earlier, Ronaldo revealed that Barcelona approached him to sign from Sporting Lisbon, but he moved to Manchester United.
In an interview with journalist Edu Aguirre, Ronaldo said: “Yes, it was when I was playing at Sporting Lisbon and I had the opportunity to join various clubs, one of which was Barcelona," Cristiano Ronaldo said.
“I remember being with a person from Barcelona who wanted to sign me, but it didn’t happen. Maybe they wanted to bring me in, but it would have been for the following year. Then, a club like Manchester United came along and signed me immediately. You know how fast everything moves in football," Cristiano Ronaldo revealed.
