The Indian cricket team completed a 4-1 rout of England in a five-match T20I series on Sunday (February 2) at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium with a thumping 150-run victory. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side came to the match with a series win already secured and put on a dominant performance with bat and bowl in the World Champions' last match in the shortest format till August.
After Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first, Abhishek Sharma went on a rampage with a knock of 135 in 54 balls at a strike rate of 250 with seven boundaries and 13 sixes. The 24-year-old set the record for the highest individual score and the most sixes in an innings by an Indian player in T20I history.
After the Men in Blue posted a huge total of 247 on the board, the English batting unit failed to put up a fight and were bowled out for just 97 runs. While Phil Salt scored a knock of 55 in 23 balls, no other visiting team batter made more than 10 runs. Mohammed Shami took three wickets for India while Varun Chakravarthy, Abhishek Sharma, and Shivam Dube got two scalps each.
India Create History vs England
India's 150-run victory is the second-biggest win in T20I history by a full-member team. The record for the highest victory margin in the shortest format also belongs to the Men in Blue, who set the world record with a 168-run win over New Zealand in January 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad under Hardik Pandya's leadership.
India has become the first Test-playing team in the world to register two victories by a margin of 150 runs or more in T20Is. Infact, four of the sixth biggest victories (by runs) in the shortest format of the game have come from India.
