
31-Year-Old All-Rounder Returns After Three Years As England Announce Squad For 5th Test Vs India

India and England played out a fighting draw from the jaws of defeat in the fourth TEst of the series at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. England now lead 2-1 in the series. The final Test of the series will be played just a few days later from Thursday, July 31 at The Oval in London. This is a must-win game for India as a victory would help them end the series on a 2-2 draw. England would be going into the match with the advantage. A win or a draw would both ensure that they would win the series. Now, ahead of the match, the hosts have named their squad for the game.
All-rounder Jamie Overton, who played the only Test match of his career back in 2022, returns to the squad after three years for the series decider at The Oval.
The 31-year-old Surrey all-rounder, who played three games for Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 edition of IPL, had taken two wickets and scored 97 against New Zealand at Leeds back in 2022.
Apart from the addition of Jamie Overton, the rest of the squad remains same.

How India Salvaged A Draw In 4th Test Vs England
Being put in to bat first after losing the toss, India scored 358 in the first innings before being bundled out. Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 61, while Rishabh Pant made played a valiant knock of 54 with a broken toe. Ben Stokes starred with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul.
England, in the second innings, were at their dominant best. They slammed 669 runs batting for almost two days. Joe Root top scored with 150, while Ben Stokes also scored his first century of the series, slamming 141. They thus secured a 311-run lead.
India were reeling at 0/2 in the first over in the third innings, before KL Rahul and Shubman Gill held fort with a 188-run stand. Rahul got out for 90, while Gill slammed 103, his fourth century of the series. After both batters were dismissed, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja weathered the storm of the English bowlers in the fifth day till the last ball of play, as both scored tons. Thus, India played out a fighting draw.
