  • The India-Pakistan match has sparked controversy
A week after the India-Pakistan clash in the ongoing World Championship of Legends was cancelled, the controversy refused to die down as Shikhar Dhawan was asked what he would do if the Men in Blue face off against their arch-rivals in the semi-final or finals of the tournament.
Dhawan was the first cricketer to openly reveal he is boycotting the match, which was scheduled to take place on July 18. The former Indian opening batter took to X (formerly Twitter) on the eve of the game and posted a screenshot of an email he sent on May 11 to the organisers, stating he will not feature in any match against Pakistan.
However, the issue has not died down yet, as there remains a possibility of the two teams playing each other in the knockout stages. While points were shared for the cancelled league stage game, what the organisers and players decided to do with a place in the summit clash or the trophy at stake remains to be seen.
However, Dhawan was unhappy when a reported questioned him over such a scenario and lashed out at him by questioning the timing of the query while setting the record straight on any such situation.
“You’re asking this question at the wrong time and place — you shouldn’t have asked it. And even if I didn’t play earlier, I still won’t play now,” said Dhawan.
The situation has also taken a dramatic U-turn in the last 24 hours as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) confirmed that the 2025 Asia Cup will be hosted by India and will be an 8-tournament. Not only was it revealed that both India and Pakistan will take part, but the two teams could possibly face each other three times in the tournament after being put in the same group.
