Tim David ended his century drought in T20s and slammed his maiden ton in the shortest format in the third T20I of the five-match series against West Indies on Friday (July 25). Coming out to bat at number five, David smashed an unbeaten 102 off just 37 balls as the visitors chased down the target of 215 in just 15.1 overs. Batting with a strike rate of 275.68, David smashed 11 sixes and six fours in his power-packed knock.
David created history during his match-winning innings as he became the fastest T20I centurion for Australia. He breached the three-figure mark off the 37th ball he faced. He missed out on breaking Rohit's record by just three balls.
Rohit holds the record for scoring the fastest T20I century for a full-member nation against a full-member nation team. He shares the top spot with South Africa's David Miller. Both batters took only 35 balls to slam their respective centuries in 2017.
Tim David was batting on 91 off 31 balls and needed nine runs off three balls to break Rohit and Miller's record. He only managed to score seven runs off the next five balls. He reached his century off 37 balls. But David does hold the record for being the quickest T20I centurion for Australia.
He broke Josh Inglis' record. Inglis became Australia's fastest T20I centurion against Scotland in 2024. He breached the three-figure mark in 43 balls.
Australia clinch series
Australia clinched the T20I series with two matches still left to be played. WI captain Shai Hope slammed a century and remained unbeaten on 102 off 57 balls to take his team to a total of 214. Brandon King also played his part and scored 62 off 36 balls.
The total didn't prove to be enough and the Australian batsmen punished the home team bowlers. The next two T20Is will be played on July 26 and 28. Australia whitewashed WI 2-0 in the Test series.
