West Indies captain Shai Hope slammed the maiden T20I century of his career in the third T20I against Australia in St Kitts. The right-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten 102 off 57 balls as WI registered a big total of 214/4 on the board in 20 overs. Hope and Brandon King provided a dream start to WI and added 125 runs for the first wicket in 11.4 overs. King departed for 62 off 36 balls. Hope batted till the end and remained unbeaten.
Hope created history and achieved a huge milestone which even the likes of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo couldn't. Hope is now one of the two WI batsmen to score centuries in all three formats of the game.
Hope, who made his international debut in a Test match against England in 2015, has 2 tons in red-ball cricket. He has 17 centuries in ODIs and a ton in T20Is.
Chanderpaul and Bravo are among the greatest WI players but they couldn't score centuries in all formats. Chanderpaul scored 30 centuries in 164 Tests and 11 centuries in 268 ODIs. He has the highest score of 41 in 22 T20Is.
Bravo scored 3 centuries in 40 Tests and 2 tons in 164 ODIs. The WI legend never scored a century in T20Is. He couldn't breach the three-figure mark in 582 T20s he played.
Chris Gayle, the first batsman in world cricket to slam centuries in all three formats, is the only other WI cricketer to achieve this milestone. The Universe Boss finished his career with 15 Test, 25 ODI and 14 T20I centuries. He played his last match for WI at the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, WI failed to defend a big target of 215 and lost the game by six wickets. Australia are 3-0 ahead in the five-match T20I series.
