The Asia Cup 2025 was in limbo for a long time due to the strained relations between India and Pakistan. This was especially following the dastardly Pahalgam terrorist attacks which killed 26 innocent civilliants, followed by India's subsequent retalliation in Operation Sindoor. However, after much delibertion the tournament is finally set to be back on track. This happened after the Annual General meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) which took place in Dhaka on July 24. There were reports that the Asia Cup was confirmed to be held with all memvers agreeing to it. The official confirmation of when the tournament will be held has arrived.

ACC Chairman and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed the Asia Cup will take place finally from September 9 to 28. The tournament will not be held in India, as initially planned, but will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

BCCI had reportedly earlier declined to take part in the AGM as they had concerns regarding the tense political situation in Bangladesh. However, they made a U-turn and attended the meeting virtually. This meeting was als attended by the other member nations, as a resolution finally took place.

While an official division of the group stages is yet to be announced, reports state that India and Pakistan will likely be kept in the same group. The teams will most likely qualify for the Super 4s and meet again in the second round. There will be a possibility of the teams playing each other in the final as well. Hence, we might see as many as three India vs Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup 2025.

The continental tournament is set to be played in the T20 format with the T20 World Cup 2026 on the horizon.
