Dhruv Jurel is once again doing the wicketkeeping duties in place of an injured Rishabh Pant. Pant suffered an ankle injury on the opening day of the ongoing Test match in Manchester. He did return to bat, but isn't fit to keep wickets. Pant, who will bat in the second innings too, has been ruled out of the series and he will return home after the ongoing fixture. Jurel kept wickets in the third Test too. Pant could only do the wicketkeeping duties for 35 overs in England's first innings.
Pant suffered a finger injury and went off the field. He was fit to bat in both innings but was replaced by Jurel behind the wickets. Jurel is now set to make his return to the playing XI in the fifth Test. He hasn't played a Test match since November 2024.
Dhruv Jurel creates world record
Dhruv Jurel created a world record on the third day of the fourth Test against England and became the first substitute wicketkeeper to stump two batsmen in an innings. While substitute wicketkeepers have stumped one batsman in an innings, it's the first time in Test cricket's history that a wicketkeeper stumped two batters.
Jurel stumped Harry Brook for 3 on the first ball of the 81st over, bowled by Washington Sundar. On the second delivery of the 120th over, bowled by Ravindra Jadeja, Jurel stumped Joe Root for 150.
Apart from affecting two stumpings, Jurel has also pouched two catches behind the stumps in England's first innings so far.
England dominate day 3
England continued their domination and finished day 3 at 544/7 after 135 overs. Root etched his name in history books and became the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket. Ollie Pope scored 71 while Ben Stokes is batting on 77. All-rounder Liam Dawson, batting on 21, will kick off the proceedings for England along with Stokes. The home team has a 186-run lead.
