Ravi Shastri left former England cricketers Michael Vaughan, Alastair Cook, David Lloyd, and Phil Tufnell surprised after revealing the earnings of top Indian cricket stars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni, as the financial strength of Indian cricket came to the spotlight.
Shastri made the stunning revelation, which left the English quartet stunned during an interaction on the 'Stick to Cricket' podcast on the Overlap Cricket Youtube Channel.
"What kind of numbers do these superstars in India earn?," Vaughan asked Shastri.
Indian coach went on to reveal top stars such as Tendulkar, Dhoni, and Kohli, who are not just among the world's best cricketers in history but also some of the biggest brands in the sport, earn above Rs. 100 crore.
"They earn a lot. A lot through endorsements, for sure and upwards of 100 crores," said Shastri, who was then asked to convert it in British Pounds. "Well which would say 10 million," Shastri replied.
"Yeah Ten Million Pounds. I'd just calculate one hundred rupees as one pound. So you work backwards and you can get upwards of that because.Someone like an M.S or a Virat or Sachin and his pomp. They would do over 15-20 ads. And it's per day. There is no time. You could easily do more because of the amount cricket being played. So you know they'll do an ad for year and give us a day," Shastri further added.

Shastri himself is among Indian cricket's most iconic figures, having been associated with the sport since his debut in 1981. He played 80 Tests and 151 ODIs in a career that lasted 11 years before his final appearance in 1992. He was part of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team and won the Player of the Tournament (POTM) award in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket triumph.
Since his retirement, Shastri has become one of the sport's greatest commentators was behind the mic in various memorable moments. He also served as the Indian team's director of cricket from 2014 to 2016 and head from 2017 to 2021.
