India suffered a blow on the opening day of the fourth Test against England as Rishabh Pant suffered an ankle injury. The left-handed batsman was hit on his ankle by a delivery from Chris Woakes. He was immediately taken off the field. Rishabh did return to bat but he has been ruled out of the series. He will come out to bat in the second innings before returning home. Dhruv Jurel, who kept wickets in the majority of the third Test, is once again doing the job.
The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee was set to call up Ishan Kishan as Rishabh's replacement but he can't travel to England. The Times of India has reported the reason behind Ishan not travelling to the UK.
Ishan is reportedly down with an ankle injury and has a plaster on his left ankle. "Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty. Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle," a source told TOI.
Cricbuzz has reported that Narayan Jagadeesan will be added to the Test squad as Rishabh's replacement. He will join the team before the fifth Test match.
Jagadeesan, who is uncapped in international cricket, has 3373 runs in 52 first-class matches at an average of 47.50. He has never played for India A. Jagadeesan has been part of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in IPL.
England dominate day 2
