Joe Root is already in the league of great batters in Test cricket, but he is rapidly moving towards the status of the greatest batter of the format. Joe Root had a shaky start to the Test series against India, but he got better with every game. His form peaked at Lord's where he scored a brilliant century to lay the foundation of a magnificent win for England.
After India were bowled out for 358 at Old Trafford, and England openers added 161 runs for the first wicket, India needed to remove Root early to have a chance of comeback, but the veteran looked in no trouble and scored an unbeaten fifty. He was batting at 54 at the time of writing, and looked set to torment India with another big score.
Meanwhile, Root achieved a massive feat during the knock and went past Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid to become the third leading run scorer of the tournament. Root's ultimate goal will be to leapfrog Sachin Tendulkar's monumental milestone of 15921 runs, and his consistency is taking him closer to Tendulkar faster than expected.

Most Runs In Test Cricket

Player Runs
Sachin Tendulkar 15921
Ricky Ponting 13378
Joe Root 13300*
Jacques Kallis 13289
Rahul Dravid 13288

Joe Root Achieves Monumental Feat

Joe Root also achieved a massive milestone in the World Test Championship (WTC) during his knock at Old Trafford. Root became the first player in the world to score 600 fours in the WTC. Root has been the most consistent performer in the Test championship and is the only player to score over 5000 runs. In fact, he is just over a 100 runs away from becoming the first player in the world to score 6000 runs in the WTC.

Most Fours In WTC

Player Fours Innings
Joe Root 600 124
Marnus Labuschagne 476 49
Steve Smith 459 95
Travis Head 413 87
Zak Crawley 411 93
Root also became the first player in the world to score 1000 runs at Old Trafford in Manchester. Root has also scored 2166 runs at Lord's and is only the third England player after Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch to score 1000+ runs at two different venues in England.

Big Records In Sight

Root could break plenty of more records if he stands at the wicket for long. If Root goes on to score a hundred in the Test, he will become the first player in the world to score 12 Test centuries against India.
