After months of uncertainty, it can be safely said that the Asia Cup 2025 will see daylight. According to reports, the BCCI has given a green signal to the tournament during the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dhaka, which the BCCI representatives attended virtually. Dark clouds loomed over the tournament after India-Pakistan ties hit a new low following the Pahalgam attack, and there were calls to boycott Pakistan in global events.
A complete boycott of Pakistan would have been a huge financial setback to ACC and ICC, and all the stakeholders would have borne the consequences. As things stand, the PCB and BCCI have worked it out for the Asia Cup. India are the host of the event, but the BCCI is likely to move the tournament out of India to the UAE or Abu Dhabi.

India Squad For The Asia Cup

The Asia Cup is a significant event, and India would leave no stone unturned to win the tournament. It will be played months before the T20 World Cup 2026, so expect the Men in Blue to field the strongest possible squad.
Suryakumar Yadav is India's T20I captain, but the odds are high that he may miss the event due to a recent surgery for sports hernia. Hardik Pandya could be named the captain of the team if SKY is not available.
India have a plethora of options to choose from, but they'll most likely stick to the tried and tested combination till the T20 World Cup. The batting will be led by Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Dhruv Jurel. Shubman Gill could also return to the team, keeping the T20 World Cup 2026 in mind.
Axar Patel is a certainty in the squad as vice-captain and the top all-rounder, while Washington Sundar should also find a place in the squad as the second all-round option. The pace unit should be led by Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj, while Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, or even Yash Dayal could be the third pacer. Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to play the event, even though he will be in the squad for the T20 World Cup. Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy should be the two specialist spinners.
