India suffered a big setback as Rishabh Pant was reportedly ruled out of the England series due to a fractured toe. Pant was hit on his toe after he attempted a premeditated sweep off Chris Woakes, and the ball smashed him on his right foot. He looked in searing pain and was carried off the field in an ambulance. Pant was later taken for scans, where it was confirmed that he has a broken toe and would miss at least six weeks of action.
While the official confirmation from the BCCI is pending, the development was confirmed in a report by Indian Express.
“The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk through and chances of his batting looks very bleak,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to The Indian Express.
Who Will Replace Rishabh Pant In The Fifth Test?
According to the report, the selection committee will add Ishan Kishan to the squad for the fifth Test at the Oval. However, it is not confirmed if he would feature in the playing XI. Dhruv Jurel was picked as the second wicketkeeper-batter in the squad, and kept for Pant in the Lord's Test. He will also take the gloves in the Manchester Test as Pant won't keep in the Test. If will be very unlikely that India would go for Ishan Kishan without giving Jurel a shot in XI.
Pant was in great form in the series and his injury is a huge blow to India and their chances of winning the series.
