Bangladesh made history on Tuesday as they registered their first-ever T20I series victory against Pakistan with a clinical eight-run win in the second match at Mirpur, Dhaka. Bangladesh set a 134-run target for Pakistan after being asked to bat first. The hosts scored 133 in 20 overs, with Jaker Ali contributing significantly - scoring 55 off 48 balls, including five sixes. It was his third half-century in T20I cricket. Bangladesh had initially struggled, losing four wickets for 28 runs by the sixth over. A crucial 53-run partnership between Jaker and Mahedi Hasan helped stabilise Bangladesh's innings. Mahedi contributed 33 runs from 25 balls, including two sixes and two boundaries.
Salman Mirza, Ahmed Daniyal, and Abbas Afridi picked up two wickets each. In reply, Pakistan found themselves in big trouble, losing wickets at regular intervals and reeling at 15 for 5. Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam, who recorded his best T20I figures of 3 for 17 on Mirpur's slow pitch, wreaked havoc on Pakistan's batting order.
However, Faheem Ashraf's impressive innings of 51 runs from 32 balls helped Pakistan recover. But his dismissal by spinner Rishad Hossain in the 19th over ended Pakistan's hopes. Ashraf’s dismissal also broke his 41-run partnership with Abbas Afridi, who scored 19.
The victory helped Bangladesh pocket the series 2-0, with one match still remaining, to be played in Dhaka on Thursday. This marked Bangladesh's first T20I series win against Pakistan in four attempts.
"It's wonderful to win back-to-back series. This shows good improvement in our standards," said Bangladesh captain Litton Das, referring to their recent series win against Sri Lanka. "We thought 134 would be gettable, but we lost too many wickets early on and that's something we must address quickly," said Pakistan captain Salman Agha.
