England have named their playing XI for the fourth Test match against India. The Ben Stokes-led side was forced to make a change as Shoaib Bashir wasn't available for selection due to a finger injury which he suffered during the third Test match. Liam Dawson, who replaced Bashir in the squad, will play his first Test match since July 2017. Dawson has played 3 Tests so far. He made his Test debut against India in December 2016.
Dawson was part of England's 2019 World Cup squad. Though he didn't get a chance in the final XI. Apart from 3 Tests, Dawson has also played 6 ODIs and 14 T20Is.
Zak Crawley will continue to open the innings with Ben Duckett. Ollie Pope will bat at number 3 and will be followed by Joe Root. Harry Brook will bat at number 5. He will be followed by Stokes, Jamie Smith, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer. Archer made his return to the playing XI in the Lord's Test match. It was his first Test since 2021.
Meanwhile, India will have two forced changes in the playing XI as Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep will miss the fourth Test. Nitish is down with a knee injury and will return home. Akash is reportedly dealing with a back issue and won't play the fourth Test.
Anshul Kamboj, who recently joined the team, is likely to make his debut in Manchester. Shardul Thakur could replace Nitish in the final XI. Shardul is an all-rounder and can contribute in both departments of the game. The fourth Test will be played at Old Trafford from July 23 to 27.
