In what comes as a huge setback to India, all-rounder Nitish Reddy has reportedly been ruled out of the remaining two Test matches against England due to injury. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Reddy picked up an injury during a training session in the gym, with the scans revealing a knee ligament tear.
Reddy's injury comes as a big blow to India, who are already struggling with injuries to key players like Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. Anshul Kamboj has been added to India's squad as a seam-bowling replacement.
Nitish Reddy didn't play the first Test but was included in the second Test in Birmingham. He didn't make any significant contribution to India's win, but made his presence felt at Lord's with the wickets of Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the same over. He dismissed Crawley again in the second innings, and also scored 23 and 13 in the two innings, respectively. The string of injuries has put India in a spot of bother. They are trailing 2-1 in the series, and face a must-win situation in the following two Tests to win the series.
Before the series, India confirmed that they would play Jasprit Bumrah in three matches as part of his workload management plan, but given that there was an eight-day gap between the third and fourth Test, they were mulling over playing Bumrah in Manchester. With the series of injuries to bowlers, Bumrah playing in Manchester is inevitable, which is not a bad news.
