The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 was set to witness the biggest match this season when the India Champions were sheduled to take on Pakistan Champions at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday, July 20. However, the match has now been cancelled owing to negative fan backlash, and many players pulling out from the game as a protest for the dastardly Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed several innocent civillians back in April. After fans could not witness legends like Yuvraj Singh, Harbahajan Singh and Suresh Raina going one on one against Shahid Afridi and Moihammed Hafeez, EaseMyTrip, who are one of the main sponsors of the league, have spoken out.
In a statement on social media, EaseMyTrip clearly stated that they had very early cleared the fact that they would not associate themeselves with any WCL match that involved Pakistan.
“Despite entering into a 5-year sponsorship agreement with the World Championship of Legends (WCL) two years ago, our stance has always been clear—EaseMyTrip will not be associated with or participate in any WCL match involving Pakistan. We proudly continue to support the India Champions and stand firmly by our team,” the statement read.
“However, as a matter of principle, we do not support or promote any match that includes Pakistan. This position was communicated unambiguously to the WCL team from the beginning. EaseMyTrip supports Team India, but will not engage in any match featuring Pakistan. Let’s bring the cup home. Bharat First. Always," the statement further read.
Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh And Others Pull Out Before Match Was Cancelled
Even before the match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions was cancelled, several Indian stars pulled out of game. On the night of July 19, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan publically stated on his social media accounts that he would not be participating in the match.
"Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota (The step I took on May 11, I still stand by it today. My country means everything to me—nothing comes above the nation.)," Dhawan wrote.
Earlier a Revsportz report stated that Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan too, had pulled out of the match on July 20.
