India are currently taking on England in a five-match Test series against England in England for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The hosts are currently trailing by a margin of 1-2, and the bowlers of the Indian team have been put under a lot of pressure. This is especially because Jasprit Bumrah is slated to play only three of the five matches of the series owing to workload management issues. Many expected Mohammed Shami to return to action in Tests in this series, especially after his white-ball return earlier this year. He missed out due to his recurring injury issues, but it looks like his return date has finally been revealed.
Mohammed Shami has been named in the expanded list of 50 probables for the upcoming domestic season for Bengal, according to a report by ESPN Cricinfo. If things fall into place, then Shami will be returning to action in the Duleep Trophy which begins from August 28.
Why Mohammed Shami Did Not Get Picked For England Tour?
Mohammed Shami did not get picked in the India squad for the England series as chief selector Ajit Agarkar had informed that he had an injury and had some MRIs done. Hence, he would not be able to play a five-match Test series.
“The medical guys have told us that he has been ruled out of this series. He has been trying to be fit for the series, but he had a setback over the last week, and he has had some MRIs done. I don't think he was going to be able to play five Tests… It is unfortunate. We always want to pick a bowler like him," he had said.
Mohammed Shami was last seen in action in the IPL 2025 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had a horror time in the tournament, where he picked up just 6 wickets in 9 matches at a huge economy rate of 11.23.
