West Indies cricket legend, Brian Lara has heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah and called him the GOAT. Bumrah has emerged as one of the best bowlers right since his debut and he has excelled in all three formats. Bumrah's back issues have seen him miss plenty of cricket but he has always bounced back strongly. He remains a regular in Tests. The right-arm pacer hasn't played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup final and a T20I since the 2024 World Cup final.
Speaking on the Stick To Cricket podcast, Lara put Bumrah in the GOAT category along with 3 other cricketers. Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist and Jacques Kallis were the other three GOATs in Lara's list.
McGrath and Gilchrist were part of Australia's dominant side. Australia enjoyed a dream run in world cricket for a decade, which started in 1999.
Kallis was a complete package on the field and he contributed in all departments. The South African legend finished his Test career with 13289 runs and 292 wickets. He finished his ODI career with 11579 runs and 273 wickets.
Lara included four cricketers in the 'legend' category, which is below the GOAT category. He named Rohit Sharma as one of the legends. Rohit, who became a white-ball regular in 2013, is one of the best openers in world cricket. He has 11168 runs in ODIs and 4231 runs in T20Is. Rohit cemented his spot in the Test team in 2019 and finished his career with 4301 runs.
Apart from Rohit, Kevin Pietersen, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Kane Williamson were three other legends picked by Lara. Pietersen retired from the game in 2018.
Afridi continues to play for Pakistan while Williamson doesn't regularly play for New Zealand after denying the central contract twice. NZ reached the final of the 2019 ODI World Cup under his captaincy.
