The BCCI has sent a clear message to PCB's Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), regarding the venue for the Asia Cup meeting. Naqvi wants the meeting to be held in Dhaka. Times Now has exclusively learnt that the BCCI officials won't be travelling to Dhaka and have officially conveyed the same to the ACC Chairman. A BCCI official personally spoke to Mohsin but there hasn't been any response from his side.
The Indian cricket board will flex its muscles and won't participate in the meeting if the venue isn't moved. It would also mean that the 2025 Asia Cup might get cancelled.
The BCCI has the support of Sri Lanka Cricket, Afghanistan Cricket Board and Oman Cricket Board. These 3 cricket boards will also boycott the meeting if the BCCI officials decide against participating in it. An official word regarding it should be out soon.
Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be played in September, is slated to be played in a T20 format. India was originally scheduled to host the tournament but it is now set to be played at a neutral venue. India didn't travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup.
The Men in Blue played their 2025 Champions Trophy matches at a neutral venue. The final was also shifted out of Pakistan as India reached the summit clash. They defeated New Zealand in the final to lift the trophy.
Will India-Pakistan lock horns in Asia Cup?
India and Pakistan will lock horns in the Asia Cup if the tournament is held. The two teams don't meet in a bilateral series. But they do share the field in the Asia Cups and the World Cups.
India won the 2023 Asia Cup with a win over Sri Lanka in the final. The tournament was played in a 50-over format as it was held before the 2023 ODI World Cup.
