India are all set to take on England in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. This will be a do-or die match for India as a loss in this Test would mean that India would lose the series with a match to go. Rishabh Pant has been in superb form throughout the sries, and will be key for India if they want to win the fourth match. Pant has hit some massive sixes in this series, and now he is on the verge of breaking his own record as the 4th Test begins on July 23 (Thursday).
Rishabh Pant holds the record for being the Indian wicketkeeper-batter with the most number of sixes in a calendar year. He hit 21 sixes in Tests in 2022. In 2025, he has hit 20 sixes in the longest format. He needs two more sixes in the Manchester Test to break his own record. There are five times that an Indian keeper-batter has hit more than 15 sixes, and it was Pant who breached this mark on all five occassions.
Rishabh Pant Chasing Rohit Sharma Record
Rishabh Pant has 2677 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history for India. Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most runs for India in WTC history, with 2716 runs to his name. If Pant scores 40 runs in the fourth Test, he has the chance to overtake the former India Test captain and break his record.
Rishabh Pant Might Play As Specialist Batter
In the press conference before the 4th Test vs England, Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Rishabh Pant might not keep in the fourth Test if he is not fully fit. However, he will definitely bat in the match. If he does not keep, then Dhruv Jurel will replace him.
“He will bat in Manchester before the Test. I don't think you're gonna keep Rishabh out of the Test no matter what. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the 3rd Test, and it's only going to get easier on his finger. Keeping is the last part of the process. We need to make sure that he can keep — we don't want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through an innings,” Doeschate said.
