India are all set to take on England in the fourth Test of the five-match series at Old Trafford in Manchester. This is a must-win game for India, especially after losing the third Test at Lord's in a heartbreaking fashion. India are now trailing in the series by a margin of 1-2. A loss in the fourth Test would mean that India would lose the series with a game to go. Rishabh Pant would be a crucial player for India in the series, given the golden run of form he is in. He suffered a finger injury in the third Test, and hence he could not keep for the maximum duration of the match. This might force a change in Pant's role, according to assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
In the press conference before the 4th Test vs England, Ryan ten Doeschate hinted that Rishabh Pant might not keep in the fourth Test if he is not fully fit. However, he will definitely bat in the match. If he does not keep, then Dhruv Jurel will replace him.
“He will bat in Manchester before the Test. I don't think you're gonna keep Rishabh out of the Test no matter what. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the 3rd Test, and it's only going to get easier on his finger. Keeping is the last part of the process. We need to make sure that he can keep — we don't want to go through that again where we have to replace the keeper halfway through an innings,” Doeschate said.
“But he rested today, was trying to give the finger as long as possible, and hopefully, he's good to go in Manchester in the first session. He is in the equation, but I mean if he's fit, he plays the next Test and does both,” he added.
Rishabh Pant Chasing Rohit Sharma
Rishabh Pant has 2677 runs in World Test Championship (WTC) history for India. Rohit Sharma holds the record for the most runs for India in WTC history, with 2716 runs to his name. If Pant scores 40 runs in the fourth Test, he has the chance to overtake the former India Test captain and break his record.
Hence, he is chasing greatness in the 4th Test.
