India are embroiled in a big series against England which they are trailing by a margin of 1-2, after the heartbreaking loss in the third Test of the series at Lord's. Jasprit Bumrah has played only two Tests in the series, missing the second one, owing to his workload management issues. Despite this he has taken 12 wickets in the two games, including two five-wicket hauls. Despite this, he has not been referred to by assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate as the lion of the team. He has given the moniker to another star pacer.
In an interaction with the media before the 4th Test at Manchester, ten Doeschate labelled Mohammed Siraj as a lion, saying that he has always been taken for granted. He was all praise for the 31-year-old right arm fast bowler, saying that it is also important to manage his workload as well.
“Let’s first start with Siraj before we talk about Bumrah. I think we sort of take for granted how lucky we are to have someone like that. I know he doesn’t always have the returns you expect from a fast bowler. But in terms of heart, he’s like a lion. And what he brings to this bowling attack—whenever he has the ball in hand—you always feel like something’s going to happen. He’s not someone who’s going to shy away from the workload. So it becomes even more important for us to manage his workload and ensure that he’s at least fit enough to give his best,” ten Doeschate said.
Will Jasprit Bumrah Play 4th Test?
According to a report by Sky Sports, Jasprit Bumrah is all set to play in the fourth Test between India and England at Manchester. Prior to the start of the series, Bumrah had confirmed that he would play only three matches of the five-match series owing to managing his workload. He did not play the second match of the series at Birmingham.
Jasprit Bumrah has been in great form throughout the series. He picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the first game. In the Lord's Test, Bumrah picked up 7 wickets, including a five-fer in the first innings. With 12 wickets from 2 games, Bumrah will be a handy asset to have in the fourth game as well.
