India suffered a heartbreaking 22-run defeat at the hands of England in the Lord's Test match on Monday (July 14). Chasing a target of 193 at Lord's, the visiting team fell short by just 22 runs. They were bowled out for 170. Ravindra Jadeja was the lone warrior for India with the bat in the chase and he remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls. Much was expected from Rishabh Pant, who kicked off the series with 2 centuries. He hasn't hit a century since then.
The India vice-captain departed for 9 off 12 balls. Rishabh shared a heartfelt post on X a day after the defeat in the Lord's Test match and wrote: "We fought hard, but sometimes the game doesn’t go your way. Test cricket never stops teaching."
Shoaib Bashir scalped the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj on the fifth ball of his sixth over. The batter played a defensive shot but the ball rolled towards the stumps. There was enough power in the defence that the ball went on to hit the stumps. The bail quickly went down, which meant that Siraj was dismissed. Bashir is set to miss the next two Tests due to a fractured finger.
Team India's success has heavily relied on the batsmen's performances and Rishabh will hope to score big in the fourth game. He could miss the next game due to the finger injury. Rishabh was hit on his left index finger while collecting a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah on day 1.
He was replaced by Dhruv Jurel before the 36th over of England's innings. He didn't return to keep wickets. Rishabh could play as a specialist batsman if the need arises.
As for Dhruv, he has only played one Test since Rishabh's return to the team. Dhruv played the Perth Test match against Australia as a specialist batsman.
