England suffered a big blow during the Lord's Test against India as Shoaib Bashir suffered a finger injury while bowling in the first innings. The injury kept him off the field in the second innings too and he could only bowl 5.5 overs. Following the game, the England Cricket Board confirmed that Bashir would undergo a finger surgery and miss the last two Tests, to be played from July from July 23 and 31 in Manchester and London, respectively.
The board has now named Bashir's replacement and called up Liam Dawson. The 25-year-old all-rounder has played 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 14 T20Is. He made his T20I debut in the Chennai Test against India in Chennai. Karun Nair slammed a triple-century in that fixture.
He made his ODI debut in September 2016 while his T20I debut came against Sri Lanka in July 2016. Dawson was a member of England's 2019 World Cup-winning team. Though, he didn't make it to the playing XI during the tournament.
England take 2-1 lead
Bashir scalped the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj to propel England to a win. Siraj, who faced 30 balls, was bowled by the England spinner. The ball made contact with the bat before hitting the stumps. The impact dislodged the bails and Siraj was dismissed for 4. England won the game by 22 runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Ravindra Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls in the chase. The left-handed batsman did his best with the bat but his efforts didn't prove to be enough.
Ben Stokes bowled tirelessly in the second innings and scalped 3 wickets in 24 overs he bowled. He only spent 48 runs. Jofra Archer dismissed 3 Indian batters for 55 runs in 16 overs. Brydon Carse dismissed Karun Nair and India captain, Shubman Gill.
