India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the third Test at Lord's and fell short by just 22 runs. Chasing a target of 193, India were 170/9 when Mohammed Siraj was dismissed. The extra spin on the delivery did the job for Shoaib Bashir and the ball hit Siraj's stumps. The force behind the ball was enough to dislodge the bails. The Indian batsmen failed to do the job in the fourth innings and couldn't support Ravindra Jadeja. The star all-rounder remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls.
Karun Nair was among the batsmen who failed to score big and he departed for 14 off 33 balls. He could be among the players to lose his place in the final XI for the 4th Test match.
Ahead of the fourth Test, Deep Dasgupta shared his take and said that India should play Sai Sudharsan in England if they have decided to invest in him.
Sudharsan played the first Test and has been on the bench since then. "You have to look at the future. Karun is nearing 34 and Sai is 21. If you have already decided that you would invest in Sai then allow him to gain experience playing Tests in England. He is a work in progress and will only get better," Dasgupta told PTI.
Sudharsan was dismissed for a duck in his maiden outing in Test cricket. He scored 30 in his second innings. India lost the first Test after failing to defend a big target of 371.
India won the second Test by a big 336-run margin. They suffered a defeat in the third Test. The fourth Test in Manchester is a must-win game for India and a defeat here will see them lose another series in England.
India haven't won a Test series in England since 2007. In 2021, India returned home with a 2-1 lead but lost the fifth Test played in 2022.
