Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created history yet again, and it now seems that the 14-year-old has developed an uncanny habit of setting new records. So far, he has made headlines after dazzling with the bat, but he has hit the right notes with the ball as well in the ongoing Youth Test against England.
Bowling on the second day of the contest, Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to take a wicket in a Youth Test, when he dismissed England U19 captain Hamza Shaikh for 84 runs. As a result, he now holds the record at 14 years and 107 days.
Bowling left-arm spin, he later claimed another wicket when he got rid off Thomas Rew for 34 and finished with figures of 2 for 35 in 12 overs. His performance helped India bowl out England for 439 and take a lead of 101 runs.
Earlier, Suryavanshi also starred in the ODI as India U-19 sealed a 3-2 victory against their English counterparts. Suryavanshi made 355 runs in the series, which included a century and a half-century each.
Suryavanshi's run tally is the fifth-highest in a bilateral Youth ODI series in history and the second-best by an opener. However, he is the first player to score over 300 runs at a strike rate above 150 in the history of ODI cricket at the U-19 level in a series.
