Ravindra Jadeja joined Kapil Dev in an elite list during his unbeaten 61-run knock against England in the quest to the target of 193. Jadeja's efforts didn't prove to be enough and India suffered a 22-run defeat. But Jadeja's batting heroics saw him join a huge list. The veteran all-rounder has become only the fourth cricketer to score more than 7000 runs and scalp over 600 wickets in international cricket. Jadeja made his India debut in 2009. His Test debut came 3 years later.
Jadeja has 7018 runs and 611 wickets for Team India. He has 3697 runs and 326 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja has scored 2806 runs and scalped 231 wickets in 50-over cricket.
The former India U-19 World Cup-winning player has 515 runs and 54 wickets in the shortest format of the game. Jadeja retired from T20Is in 2024 and plays the other two formats.
Kapil Dev was the first Indian to score more than 7000 runs and scalp over 600 wickets in international cricket. Shaun Pollock and Shakib al Hasan are other two players to achieve this feat.
Jadeja can finish his career with more than 8000 runs and 700 wickets in international cricket. He is among India's best performers in Test cricket.
India lose Lord's Test
India lost the Lord's Test match despite Jadeja's heroics. Chasing a target of 193, India were reeling at 58/4 at stumps on day 4. Rishabh Pant had a rare failure and he departed for 9 off 12 balls.
KL Rahul did get a start but he was dismissed for 39 off 58 balls. The former India vice-captain slammed a century in the first innings.
Jadeja was the only other batsman who breached the 20-run mark. He kept India afloat with crucial partnerships with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj but the visitors fell short. England lead the five-match Test series 2-1.
