Iga Swiatek delivered a performance for the ages at the Wimbledon 2025 women's singles final when she defeated Amanda Anisimova to clinch her maiden title at the prestigious event. She absolutely decimated her opponent, winning the match in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in just 57 minutes. She thus became the first woman and the first person since 1911 to win the Wimbledon final with a double bagel i.e winning the match without dropping a single game. This was not the only record that Swiatek achieved in her historic triumph at the momentous occasion.
Iga Swiatek had a thumping victory in the semi-final of Wimbledon 2025 as well. She defeated Belinda Bencic by a margin of 6-2, 6-0 in a dominating performance. She thus lost a combined of just two games in the semi-final and final. This is now the fewest games dropped in the semi-final and final combined by a woman in a Grand Slam. The previous record was held by the legendary Martina Navratilova, who dropped just 5 games in the semi-final and final of Wimbledon 1983.
The monumental win by Iga Swiatek was her 100th match win in Grand Slams. She becomes the first woman to win her 100th Grand Slam match in a final. Overall, she became the second person to do so after Andy Murray did it in the US Open 2012.
Did Iga Swiatek Drop Shock Retirement Hint?
In her speech after the victory, Iga Swiatek seemingly dropped a cryptic hint at a shock retirement. She said that she wanted to enjoy playing on grass because she is not sure if it is going to happen ever again.
“Today I just wanted to enjoy the time that I had on the Centre Court and enjoy the last hours of me playing well on grass ’cause who knows if it’s going to happen again,” she said with a laugh. “I just focused on that and I really had fun," Swiatek said.
“I still felt like an underdog, and I just wanted to soak in every minute," she added.
