WWE's last premium live event before Summerslam 2025 was underway in Atlanta, Georgia and was centred around the legendary Goldberg who had announced that he would be fighting in his final match ever. He faced one of WWE's most gifted wrestlers, Gunther in a match for the coveted World Heavyweight Championship, in front of Goldberg's current hometown crowd. This was after the two had an altercation at this same venue last year during the Bad Blood Event. However, the result did not go in favour of the legend in his final match.
Goldberg had what could be termed as his best proper wrestling match since his return to WWE in 2016, as Gunther helped the veteran put on a clinical performance. The match lasted more than 14 minutes, and was not the typical Goldberg squash match, that gets over in five minutes with a few spears and Jackhammer.
Goldberg was nursing a knee injury throughout the match as Gunther targeted it. The legend even hit his signature spear and Jackhammer to Gunther, but the World Heavyweight Champion kicked out. Goldberg's son Gauge too got involved in the match to add a bit of drama.
However, it was Gunther who proved to be the superior wrestler in the ring, as he made Goldberg pass out to his signature submission move, the naked choke hold. This was the legend's second technical submission loss after Roman Reigns made him pass out in Elimination Chamber 2022.

Goldberg's Legendary Career

Goldberg is undoubtedly one of the most popular and iconic professional wrestlers of all time. He made his debut back in 1997 for WCW before going on to enjoy a legendary run, where he would remain undefeated for 173 matches. This was the longest undefeated streak in history, before Asuka ended this record in 2018.
Goldberg won the World Championship five times, including the two Universal Championship runs he had post his return to wrestling in 2016. His last win for the belt came in 2020, where he defeated The Fiend Bray Wyatt. The legend has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2017.
