KL Rahul continued his purple patch in England and slammed a century on the third day of the Lord's Test match on Saturday (July 12). The former India vice-captain continued to hold one end and batted for 177 balls. He departed quickly after slamming a century but not without creating history during his long stay in the middle. Rahul now has two centuries at Lord's. He is the only other Indian, apart from Dilip Vengasakar, with 2 tons at the Home of Cricket.
Vengsarkar breached the 100-run mark thrice at the Lord's Cricket Ground. His heroics at this iconic venue earned him the title: Lord of Lord's. He is the only non-English batsman with 3 centuries at Lord's.
KL Rahul creates history
KL Rahul created history and became the first Asian opener to score two centuries at Lord's. No other opener from an Asian country has more than one century at this venue. As mentioned, Vengsarkar did slam 3 tons at Lord's but he didn't open the innings.
Rahul slammed his first Test ton at Lord's in 2021. Courtesy of his century, India registered a big total of 364 on the board. The visitors won that game by 151 runs while defending a target of 272.
KL Rahul enjoying purple patch in England
KL Rahul is enjoying a purple patch in the ongoing series. He kicked off the series with scores of 42 and 137 in the first Test match at Leeds. He scored a half-century in the second innings of the 2nd Test in Birmingham.
He has already scored a century in the first innings of the Lord's Test and will bat once again. Rishabh Pant also put on a solid show with the bat and scored 74 off 112 balls. The wicketkeeper-batsman was run-out at the stroke of lunch on the third day.
