Rishabh Pant batted with pain as he hit the nets on the second day of the Lord's Test against England. The wicketkeeper-batsman was hit on his left index finger on the opening day of the fixture. He walked off the field in the very next over. The fans were hoping for a positive update on him but the vice-captain didn't come out to keep wickets on the second day. Dhruv Jurel continued to keep wickets. In the first innings, it was the first time that Dhruv kept wickets in Rishabh's presence in the playing XI.
Rishabh was in pain during his stay in the nets. He batted for nearly 25 minutes. India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, was out there with the wicketkeeper-batsman along with the team physio.
Rishabh played a few shots in pain. It's a worrying sign for Team India and the team is holding its breath. Rishabh will be allowed to bat when his chance comes.
India will hope that Rishabh is fit to bat as they cannot afford to be one batsman short in this all-important game. Courtesy of Jamie Smith's and Brydon Carse's half-centuries on the second day, England put on a big total of 387 on the board. Joe Root played a big role in this total and slammed a century. England's tail frustrated India and they added 116 runs for the last three wickets.
Back in the playing XI, Jasprit Bumrah shone with the ball and took a five-fer. The right-arm pacer dismissed Ben Stokes, Root and Chris Woakes early in the day. He completed his five-fer with the scalp of Jofra Archer.
Archer, who is playing his first Test since February 2021, got the early scalp of Yashasvi Jaiswal in his very first over. Yashasvi hit Woakes for three boundaries but only survived two deliveries against Archer.
