Shubman Gill etched his name in the history books during the second day of play third Test between India and England on the second day of play at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Friday (July 11) despite suffering a rare failure with the bat and making just 16 runs.
For only the second time in the series, Gill departed without scoring a century after being dismissed by Chris Woakes, with Jamie Smith taking a stunning catch behind the stumps. However, Gill managed to script a few records in his short innings too.
Shubman Gill Creates History
Gill completed 600 runs in the series through his innings before departing back to the pavilion. He broke Virat Kohli's record for the (593) for the most runs by an Asian captain in a series in England as well as becoming the first skipper of an Asian team to complete 600 runs in a Test series on English soil.

Gill also surpassed Allan Border's tally (597 in 1985) and is only the third captain in history after Gary Sobers (722 in 1966) and Graeme Smith (714 in 2003) to cross the 600-run mark while leading a team in England during a Test series.
Gill is now just one run short of Rahul Dravid's tally (602) for the most runs by a player in a series in England for India. He is also nearing Mohammad Yusuf's record (631) for the most runs by an Asian on English soil in an entire series.
