Yash Dayal, a pacer from Uttar Pradesh who represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League, has been booked under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on charges of rape and exploitation on Monday. The 27-year-old has been accused by a woman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh of “emotionally, mentally, and physically” exploiting her after promising to marry her. The woman had filed a complaint on June 21 through the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s online grievance portal, seeking justice for allegedly facing abuse and deception. In her police complaint, she alleged that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for five years.
Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita deals with sexual acts committed on the basis of deceitful promises, such as false assurances of marriage or employment. It treats such acts as a form of fraud and exploitation, punishable by up to ten years in prison.
“He repeatedly made physical relations with me by falsely promising marriage and introduced me to his family, who assured that I would be their daughter-in-law. I maintained the relationship with complete honesty and dedication,” the woman alleged. According to Indian Express, Dayal has recorded his statement before the police.
The woman also alleged that Dayal took money from her during the course of their relationship and had been involved with several other women in the past. She said she possesses evidence - chat records, screenshots, video call recordings, and photographs - to support her claims. The cricketer and his family, however, have not yet commented on the allegations.
The left-arm pacer made his IPL debut in 2022 for Gujarat Titans. In the 2025 IPL, Dayal played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s title-winning campaign, picking up 13 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 36.15. He is known for his expertise in death overs bowling.
In 2024, he earned his maiden India call-up for the home series against Bangladesh but has not yet made his international debut.
The woman also claimed that she has been suffering from depression due to Dayal’s broken promise, for which she is undergoing treatment. "I tried to end my life many times because I couldn’t get out of the mental pain, and he and his family kept giving me false assurances. His relationship with other women caused me deep mental trauma and broke me down,” she alleged.
