MS Dhoni is celebrating his 44th birthday on Monday (July 7). Even though Dhoni stay away from social media, X is flooded with wishes for the former India captain. IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI), have also sent their wishes to the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain. MI and CSK are arch-rivals and have a historic rivalry. They have locked horns in 4 IPL finals so far. CSK won the first IPL final between them back in 2010. MI have dominated the finals since then. MI defeated CSK in IPL 2013, 2015 and 2019 IPL finals.
"Happy Birthday to the legend jo अनहोनी को होनी कर दे," MI wrote on X. Their post has gone viral on X and has been reposted by more than 1.5k users.
Both MI and CSK have new captains now. Hardik Pandya, who made his return to MI before IPL 2024, has captained the team in 2 seasons so far. Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced Dhoni as CSK's captain after he relinquished captaincy in 2024.
Both Dhoni and Rohit Sharma led their respective teams to 5 IPL title wins each. Dhoni captained CSK to IPL title wins in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. Dhoni became the first captain to lead a team to back-to-back IPL title wins.
Rohit-led MI won the title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit emulated Dhoni's heroics and captained MI to back-to-back title wins.
MS Dhoni returned as IPL captain during IPL 2025
MS Dhoni returned to captaincy during IPL 2025. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who started the season as captain, suffered an elbow injury and was ruled out.
Dhoni returned to captaincy for the first time since the IPL 2023 final. For the first time in history, CSK failed to qualify for the second round of back-to-back seasons. Dhoni, who was retained in the uncapped category, is likely to play a couple of more seasons.
