India vs England Day 5 Edgbaston Weather: Rain Threat Looms Large (Source: AP)
India are on the brink of levelling the series against England, but Edgbaston weather could wash out their hopes. England are 77-3 at stumps on Day 4 and need another 536 runs to win the Test. England have a great record chasing, but to go at six runs per over for a day is a little too much to ask for. India have got the top three wickets, and on a Day 5 surface, a win looks very much in the pocket.
However, there is a rain prediction on the final day, which could significantly affect India's chances of winning. According to the weather forecast, there are a few showers expected in the morning; however, rain is likely to ease out at the time of play. But English weather is very unpredictable and could change very quickly.
The match will get underway at 10:00 AM local time, and the weather forecast predicts a 50 percent chance of rain. The weather will start clearing up after the first hour. The rain chances dip to 40 percent at 11 AM, and further fall to 20 percent at 2 PM. Clearly, if the forecast comes true, there won't be much loss of overs, but as said earlier, the England weather can be very unpredictable. The conditions, however, will stay overcast for the entire day, and this would help Indian bowlers get the ball to move off the pitch.
England's win looks out of the equation, but you never know what England could do with the bat in hand. They were 84-5 in the first innings, and then pulled off a miraculous comeback, courtesy of a 300 run partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith in just about run a ball. England bat deep so if they get a good start, who knows what they can pull off, but on paper, clearly India is way ahead in the Test.
