Mohammed Siraj has stood up on the big occasions when India needed him the most. With pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah missing the second Test at Edgbaston, Siraj ensured India did no feel the absence of Bumrah as he picked up six wickets to restrict England to 407 in reply to India's first innings score of 587. It was his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests. After the third day's play, fellow pacer and squad member Arshdeep Singh chipped in with a funny comment about Siraj's famous statement. "Brother, there is a dialogue change. I only believe in myself and Jassi bhai," Arshdeep said at the beginning of the interview.
Alongside Siraj, Akash Deep dazzled as the pacer picked up four wickets in a supporting role. After dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on the second day, Akash Deep broke the 300-run partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. After the day's play, Siraj said he enjoyed the responsibility of leading the pace attack.
"Akash Deep was waiting for his opportunity, and he showed his hunger today. I really enjoyed bowling with him. I enjoy responsibility and it is good that I did well today," Siraj said.
In a show of camaraderie, Siraj also tried to help Akash Deep reach his five-wicket haul. "I would have loved if Akash Deep would have taken a five-wicket haul today. Your first five-wicket haul is special. I told him that I would bowl four balls away from the stump to give him the best chance at taking five, but he said no," Siraj explained.
