Wanindu Hasaranga has been a champion performer for Sri Lanka in ODIs. He is an excellent bowler and a very handy batter down the order. Hasaranga was in full flow in the second ODI against Bangladesh and bowled a stunning spell of 3- 60, helping Sri Lanka bowl out the visitors for 248. The triple wickets took his tally of wickets to 106 in 65 matches. He later scored 13 runs with the bat and crossed the 1000 run mark in ODIs.
Hasaranga Creates History
While the knock wasn't a big one from Hasaranga, it helped him etch his name in the record books. Hasaranga became the fastest player to complete a double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in ODIs. The record for the fastest to 1000 runs and 100 ODIs was held by Shaun Pollock who reached the landmark in 68 ODIs, and Hasaranga accomplished the feat in his 65th ODI.
With seven wickets in two matches, Hasaranga has been the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka, however, he is yet to live up to his potential with the bat in the series.
Bangladesh Beat Sri Lanka
Meanwhile, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka to level the series 1-1. Hasaranga's brilliance helped Sri Lanka bowl out Bangladesh for a mere 248; however, the team failed to chase the target and lost by 16 runs. Kusal Mendis played a lone hand of 56 in 31 balls in the top order before the team collapsed to get reduced to 132-6. Janith Liyange then played a masterful innings of 76 and got Sri Lanka close on his own, however, he was dismissed in the 47th over, and it was all over for Sri Lanka.
