India veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's return to cricket was delayed after the BCCI confirmed the postponement of the India tour of Bangladesh. The team was set to play three T20Is and as many ODIs in Bangladesh. The BCCI released a statement and confirmed that the series was postponed after mutual agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, due to international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026," read the statement.
"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams," it added.
The series was postponed for a year, and could be played in September next year, with the schedule to be announced in due course.
"The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course."

When Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Return?

Rohit and Kohli had announced their retirement from Test ahead of the England tour, but remained active in ODIs, in the hope of winning the World Cup 2027 for India. They were all set to return in the Bangladesh series, but it was postponed. The veterans will now set their sights on the India tour of Australia in November, where the team will play a three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series. The series will be followed by ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand.
