The Asia Cup was in jeopardy after India-Pakistan ties hit a new low following the Pahalgam terrorist incident. Speculations were rife that India could boycott playing Pakistan in all events, but as per the latest reports, the tournament might see a daylight.
As per media reports, the Asia Cup is likely to start from September 5, with the final on September 21. The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan is set to take place on September 7 in Dubai. The Asia Cup will be played in a T20 format, with a focus on the next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
The India squad for the Asia Cup should see all players who are in line to play the T20 World Cup get picked. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, however, might miss out as he recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia. In his absence, Hardik Pandya could be named the captain of the side.
Sai Sudharsan could get an opportunity in the squad after a stellar IPL, while Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Dhruv Jurel, and Shreyas Iyer could be other batters in the squad. Axar Patel, Nitish Reddy, and Washington Sundar should be the preferred all-round options, while Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, and Harshit Rana could be the bowling options. Jasprit Bumrah will be in India's scheme of things for the T20 World Cup, but the BCCI is unlikely to play him in the Asia Cup to manage his workload.
