India are all set to take on England in the second Test of the five-match series at the iconic Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham from July 2 (Wednesday). This will be a big Test for Shubman Gill and his men as they are coming on the back of a defeat in the first game of the series at Headingley. Hence, they will be looking for a win and level the series 1-1. However, the players of Team India suffered a big scare just a day before the start of the crucial match.
According to a report by PTI, the Indian team was instructed to stay inside the hotel premises after the Birmingham City police found a suspicious package at the Centenary Square in the city centre. The police authorities even announced the news on their X account.
“We’ve currently got a cordon in place around Centenary Square, Birmingham city centre, while we investigate a suspicious package," read a post from Birmingham City Centre Police on X.
“We were alerted just before 3 pm, and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while it’s assessed. Please avoid the area," the post added.
Usually, players explore the areas near the hotel. In fact, players were often seen on the bustling Broad Street.
India To Make Three Changes In Playing XI
In a desperate bid to win the second Test, India are set to go with three all-rounders in the playing XI. While Washington Sundar comes in place of Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja is expected to retain his place, the Indian Express report states. In fact, Jadeja might move one place up to number 6 in this game.
Nitish Kumar Reddy is expected to come in as the third all-rounder in place of Shardul Thakur, who had a poor outing in the first Test with both bat and ball.
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the second Test vs England owing to workload management issues, in what comes as a big blow to Team India. While there were reports that Arshdeep Singh might replace him, the Indian Express report states that Akash Deep is expected to come in his place.
