- The IPL Trading window is open as things stand
Two years after the stunning scoop by Mumbai Indians (MI) to sign Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT), the Indian Premier League (IPL) might see another stunning trade move as Sanju Samson might be on his way out from Rajasthan Royals (RR) and join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 2026 season.
In an interaction with Cricbuzz, a CSK official confirmed that the franchise are looking to sign Samson while the same report also claims that multiple teams have approached the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to enquire about the wicket-keeper batter's availability.
What Are The Rules Of The IPL Trading Window?
The report by Cricbuzz stated that the IPL's trading window is currently open and will stay so till a week before the auction. It is stated that the transfer window started seven days (9:00 AM IST) after the end of the 2025 season (June 3) and will be active till seven days (5:30 PM IST) before the 2026 player auction. The date for the auction of the 19th edition of the league is yet to be announced.
The window will once again open on the day after the 2026 auction and be active till 30 days before the season starts (5:00 PM IST). However, it is worth pointing out that players purchased in the auction cannot be traded.
Usually, the player that is traded is purchased by the team for the same salary as his existing contract. For example, if Samson goes to CSK, the Men in Yellow will have to empty Rs. 18 crore in their salay cap to sign him while the Royals will get an extra boost of Rs. 18 crore.
However, it is possible for a player to get a higher salary if a negotiated increase is negotiated, and similarly, a reduced fee can also be negotiated. The negotiations for a change in fee is only in regards to the league fee and not the player contract, with BCCI's consent required for the same.
