Indian cricket legend Mohammed Shami was hit with a major setback after the Calcutta High Court announced it's verdict on the case involving the star pacer as well as his separation from his estranged wife Hasan Jahan and daughter Aaira.
The high court has ordered Shami to pay a monthly maintenance of Rs. 4 Lakhs in the case filed under the 'Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act'. Out of this amount, Rs. 1.5 Lakh/month will go towards Hasan, while 2.5 Lakh/month will be paid to her daughter. The top court of Kolkata gave the verdict after the district had earlier adjudged that Shami has to pay Rs. 50000/month to his wife and Rs. 80000/month to her daughter in 2023.
Hasan had approached the court asking for a compensation of Rs. 7 Lakh/month for herself as well as Rs. 3 Lakhs/month for her daughter.
“In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000/- per month to the petitioner no.1(wife) and Rs. 2,50,000/- to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…." the court said in an order passed on July 1 as per a report by Hindustan Times.
The court also noted that Shami can pay more for educational and other expenses of his daughter if he wishes to.
Shami married Hasan in 2014, and their daughter was born in 2015. In 2025, the Indian cricketer faced an FIR from her wife with accusations of domestic violence. The pacer was accused of match-fixing. BCCI had withheld Shami's central contract. The accusations were also probed by the anti-corruption unit (ACU). Later, Shami's contract was reinstated in March 2019..
Currently, Shami is recovering from an injury after not making India's squad for the five-match Test series against England due to fitness issues. He was last seen in action during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Shami played a key role in helping India win the 2025 Champions Trophy.
