India captain Shubman Gill has provided a huge update on Jasprit Bumrah before the 2nd Test against England. The right-arm pacer will only play 3 Tests in the series. It was already confirmed that Bumrah won't play the complete series. The India camp is keeping Bumrah's availability a secret and it isn't confirmed which two matches the senior pacer will miss. Bumrah was the star of the Indian bowling line-up in England's first innings and took a five-fer. He went wicketless in England's chase.
"Jasprit Bumrah is available. We are trying to find the right combination which can pick 20 wickets and score runs as well. Will take final call after looking at the wicket for final time today," Shubman said on the eve of the 2nd Test.
Bumrah's back issue will prevent him from playing the complete series. He has missed many matches since his Test debut. During the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah was leading the visitors in the fifth Test when he suffered a back problem.
The stand-in captain didn't bowl in Australia's chase. It ruled him out for nearly three months and he missed the all-important Champions Trophy. Bumrah made his on-field return for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
England 1-0 ahead
England will enter the second Test match with a 1-0 lead. The home team chased down the big target of 371 in the series opener. Courtesy of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, India registered a big total of 471 on the board. England responded with a total of 465.
KL Rahul and Rishabh slammed centuries in India's second innings as the visitors put on a total of 364. India suffered batting collapses in both innings and their lower order failed to make significant contributions.
Ben Duckett slammed a match-winning 149 in the fourth innings while other batsmen also made vital contributions as England chased down the big target of 371 to take 1-0 lead.
