- Alcaraz has 30 wins in 33 appearances on Grass
- The Spaniard has 19 wins in 21 matches at Wimbledon
Carlos Alcaraz started his Wimbledon title defence with a record-breaking victory over Italy's Fabio Fogini at the iconic centre court on Monday (June 30) but not before a major scare as his 38-year-old opponent left a mark on his final appearance in the tournament.
The match lasted for more than four hours and went into the fifth set, but the 2023 and 2024 champion emerged victorious with a 7-5,6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. With his victory, not just the Spaniard avoid the humiliation of a first-round exit, but also shattered the record books.
Carlos Alcaraz Creates History
Alcaraz completed his 30th win on grass and set a huge world record for being the quickest to reach the milestone in the Open Era. The Spaniard took just 33 games to complete the feat, which is quicker than Rod Laver and Tony Roche, who took 34 games and held the record for several years before today.

Quite remarkable, Alcaraz has lost fewer games on Grass (3) than he has won tournaments on the surface. The 22-year-old has won the Wimbledon (2023, 2024) as well as the Queen's Club Championship (2023, 2025) twice each.
His defeat on Grass came in the 2021 Wimbledon (second round to Danni; Medvedev), 2022 Wimbledon (fourth round to Jannil Sinner), and 2024 Queens' Club (Jack Draper).
Alcaraz has also become the first and only player to date to have a win percentage of above 90 on grass.

Alcaraz has a stunning record of 19 wins and two defeats in 21 matches at Wimbledon and now has the second best win percentage (90.47)% at the year's third grand slam and is only behind Bjorn Borg (92.7%) and has gone past Pete Sampras (90%).
The Spaniard has extended his record of being unbeaten in the first round of Grand Slams and is the fourth player in history to win in the opening round of their first 18 major appearances after Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, and Rafael Nadal.
Alcaraz has won 14 of the 15 five-setters he has played in his career. This is the joint-best record any player has after playing 15 mathces which went in the fifth set alongside Mats Wilander.
