Rishabh Pant was the star of the show, even though India lost to England in the first Test of the five-match series at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. He scored two centuries in two innings and was the main reason behind India putting a total of 823 runs across the two innings. He celebrated in his unique madcap style, with a somersault on the ground in the first innings. He also celebrated in the same manner when he hit a century for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the final game of IPL 2024. Pant's surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalla, who treated him after his near-fatal accident, was worried with his celebration.
In an interaction with The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwalla revealed that Pant was trained as a gymnast and although he looks large he is quite flexible. Hence, he has been doing his viral somersault celebration. Even though it is a well-practiced move, he deemed it as unnecessary.
“Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that's why he's been doing those somersaults of late. It's a well-practised and perfected move – unnecessary though!” Dr Pardiwalla stated.

RIshabh Pant Creates History In 1st Test

Rishabh Pant was in sublime form in the first Test at Headingley. He scored 134 in the first innings and 118 in the second. He became the first Indian wicketkeeper batter and the second overall after Andy Flower to hit centuries in both innings of a Test Match.
Pant now has 8 centuries in Test Cricket to his name. He has thus overtaken MS Dhoni to become the wicketkeeper with the most Test tons for India. Dhoni had 6 scores of 100 and above to his name in the longest format.
