Rishabh Pant had a magnificent outing in the first Test against England and became only the second wicketkeeper-batter in history to score twin centuries in a Test match. Things weren't promising for Pant ahead of the series. He had a poor series against Australia, where he only scored 255 runs in five Tests at an average of 28.33. He didn't play a single game in the ICC Champions Trophy, and also had a terrible IPL 2025, scoring a mere 300 runs. Things would have been worse for Rishabh Pant had he not scored a hundred in the final league game.
According to a report from The Times of India, Rishabh Pant realised a need for change after the Melbourne Test, where he was slammed for playing irresponsible shots. In March 2025, Pant took a big decision and uninstalled WhatsApp and switched off his phone to remove the clutter from his mind after going through the most chaotic season of his career.
India's former strength and conditioning coach, Sohum Desai, revealed that Pant punished himself with a rigorous routine to improve his fitness and become the best version of himself.
“He did the most intense sessions day in and day out. He dragged me into the gym whenever he was free. He didn't care about fatigue or work-loaded programmes. All he said was he needed to keep working on himself. On the day of the final, he came to me with some kind of guilt in his mind and asked if he could take the day off. I said it was high time that he did,” Desai told Times of India.
"Pant has so much reserve that he will be fine for at least a year without having to do anything extraordinary. That's why you see him moving around so well despite scoring two hundreds and keeping wickets for so long in the Headingley Test.
Meanwhile, things have changed for good for Rishabh Pant. His century in the first Test helped him attain his best ICC rankings. The southpaw is now seventh in the latest ICC rankings.
