Australia were too hot to handle for the West Indies as the visitors picked up a convincing 159-run win in Barbados to take a 1-0 lead in the series. West Indies did well to bowl out Australia for 180 in the first innings, but the fearsome Australian pace attack helped their team punch back, restricting West Indies to 190. Fifties from Travis Head, Beau Webster, and Alex Carey ensured Australia post 310 in the second innings before the bowlers again ran riot and bowled out West Indies for 141 to win the game.
Pat Cummins Breaks Multiple Records
Australia's greatest strength is their pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, which can help the team bounce back from any situation. The pacers were on fire in the Test and accounted for 14 out of 20 wickets to fall. Mitchell Starc took three wickets in the first innings, while Hazlewood and Cummins bagged two each. In the second innings, Hazlewood picked a fifer, while Starc and Cummins took one each.
Meanwhile, Cummins created history after he dismissed West Indies captain Roston Chase in the first innings. Cummins became the first captain in the world to dismiss 10 opposition captains in Test cricket. Cummins has dismissed Rohit Sharma six times, Dean Elgar three times, Ben Stokes, Temba Bavuma, Kraigg Brathwaite, Tim Southee twice each, and Joe Root, Shan Masood, Jasprit Bumrah and Roston Chase once in his career. In fact, Cummins has dismissed the opposition captain six time in the last six games.
Cummins also broke the 63-year-old record of former Australia captain Richie Benaud for most wickets by an Australian Test captain. Cummins now has 140 wickets as captain, two more than Benaud. The record for most wickets by a captain is held by Pakistan great Imran Khan, who took 187 wickets as skipper.
