A famous image from India's victory in the 2011 World Cup, where Arjun's father, Sachin, achieved his dream of winning cricket's biggest prize after six attempts of trying. During the summit clash at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Arjun and Prithvi were spotted sitting together in the stands, which went viral on social media years later.
Shaw opened up on his bond with Arjun and revealed that he was captain of the MIG club team at the age-group level, during which Arjun also played for them. The Indian opener reveal ed that he was scared at shouting at Arjun due to him being a close friend as well as the son of arguably the greatest-ever ricketer in history. However, the 25-year-old revealed that Sachin advised him on the issue.
"The problem was. Arjun also used to play for MIG. I was the captain. U-14, U-13. Arjun used to be there. As a captain, I have to change the field or if he drops a catch, so if have to shout at him. I used to think, 'How do I shout at Arjun.' He is my friend. He is also Sachin sir's son. However, Sir told me, 'If there is anything, tell him.' Sir never interfered in his cricketing life," said Shaw in an interaction with News24 Sports.
The ex-Delhi Capitals star further revealed that Arjun is very dedicated towards the sport and, from a young age has been curious. Shaw further praised the Mumbai Indians star for being humble despite being Sachin Tendulkar's son.
"We used to have a lot of fun together. There was a U-10 tournament, Shiv Sevak in Borivali. That used to be a tennis tournament. We used to be really excited about that tournament. I did not use to play Tennis a lot. We used to practice. The 2011 World Cup we saw together. Arjun used to ask a lot of questions. He is very dedicated towards cricket. If you look at his life, he has made a lot of changes. Today he bowls 135+ plus. At that time, he used to ask if Mitchell Johnson was faster or Malinga.
"I feel even he did not realise whose son he is. He is so down-to-earth. He never made me feel. He has come to this house too. He does not know whose son he is, which is very good. It is a great quality in him. It has never happened with me that I said something in fun and he told me something," Shaw added.
Arjun and Shaw did not play with each other in professional cricket as the former moved out of Mumbai and has been playing for Goa since the 2022 season. Arjun just played two T20 games for Mumbai in the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) in which Shaw was not part of the playing XI.
Shaw is now set to follow Arjun's path and leave Mumbai in a bid to make a comeback in the Indian team. The star opener is likely to join Maharashtra, according to reports.
