Yashasvi Jaiswal Needs 183 Runs In 2nd Test To Become First Player In The World To... (Source: AP)
Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his great run against England and scored a breathtaking century in the first game at Headingley, Leeds. Jaiswal has been a nemesis for England, scoring three centuries and three fifties against the Three Lions. He scored over 700 runs when England toured India in 2024, and he has started the England tour in the best possible way.
Along with Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant also scored centuries in the first Test, but it was not enough to fetch a win as England defeated India by five wickets. The major reason for India's defeat was the lower-order collapse in both innings, which resulted in India throwing away the advantage. The onus once again falls on the top order to help the team post big runs on the board in the second Test.
Yashasvi Jaiswal On Cusp Of History
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the cusp of a historic feat in Test cricket. Jaiswal, who has scored 817 in 11 innings of six Tests against England, could become the fastest to 1000 runs in the India vs England Test series. To achieve the feat, Jaiswal needs to score 183 runs in the second Test.
Jaiswal could also become the fastest to score 1000 Test runs against England. The record is currently held by Don Bradman, who reached the milestone in 13 innings, and Jaiswal has just one innings to break the record.
Jaiswal also needs 97 runs in the next inning to become the fastest to 2000 runs in Test cricket among batters from India. Jaiswal, who has scored 1903 runs so far, has played 38 innings, and the record for the fastest to 2000 runs among Indians is held by Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who reached the milestone in 40 innings.
Problems Plenty For India Ahead Of 2nd Test
The top order is firing for India, but the lack of runs from Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur is a worry. India comprised their bowling to add batting depth, but the two collapses have given them a reality check. Secondly, the form of bowlers apart from Jasprit Bumrah is concerning. India need to take 20 wickets to beat England, and it is very important for Indian bowlers to support Jasprit Bumrah.
